I want to convince my dad to do his
family compound idea. Buy some land in southern Appalachia, build two houses for my parents and my sister's family, and honestly I'd just love a small, cozy cottage for me. Tiny home Hobbitcore on the family compound. Sounds like a dream.
Anyway, my uncle has the same idea for his family and I'm trying to appeal to my dad via the logic of economies of scale, I'm like surely it's less expensive per house with every additional "household" we include in the compound. The family compound. Incredible concept. Not cult-like at all.
Speak of the devil and he doth appear: my dad just popped in to ask about the compound I built for us in Paralives and we had a back and forth about where to go (he's not sure about North Carolina, feels like my sister's family is likelier to stay near Atlanta than the Midwest). There's no such thing as a "climate haven" and flooding will be an issue everywhere as cycles of droughts and floods intensify--still, it would be nice to be off the coast.
I wouldn't mind a shared kitchen situation…though if everyone is as messy as my parents, then that would be stressful. I know M's family is neat! Because wow there's a significant difference in my comfort level being in the rest of the house based on how messy it is. Just let me hermit in my room, I'm good.
